William Mark Taylor
The day Will was born will forever be known as "the
best day in history!" I went into labour when my water
broke on Monday October 3, 2005 at 11:15 pm. We
headed to the Sundre hospital but were told to go
home as it would be quite a while before our little
peanut was born. We tried to get some sleep
(impossible!) and headed back to the hospital at 6:00
am, much sooner than expected. Will made his
appearance at 3:47 pm on Tuesday October 4 after
2.5 hours of pushing. His Dad, Gramma Alice and
Doula Leah were present for his birth. I thought I was
prepared for his birth, but nothing can prepare you
emotionally for the first time you see that beautiful face.
It was love at first sight, and a real miracle! He was the
answer to our prayers and a real blessing.
Upon delivery Will was immediately placed in my arms.
I said "Hello Baby!" and he turned his head and fixed
his eyes upon my face. It was unbelievable! I couldn't
believe a new baby could be so alert. He was quite
purple but turned more pink with each passing minute.
Mark began speaking to him. Will recognized his Dad's
voice and turned his head to look up at him. As we
welcomed him into the world he kept turning his head
and peering from face to face. It was amazing! As soon
as Will was delivered Mark exclaimed "Its our little
Willy!" We hadn't decided on a name yet. We had a
short list of names, but none of them seemed to suit our
new little man. Will has two great-grandpas named
William. Mark's maternal grandfather, Bill Topham,
and my paternal grandfather, Bill Murray. The name
William was perfect.
My Mom was present for the labour and
delivery. It was one of those things we weren't
sure we would do, but when the time came we
were sure glad she was there! Our doula, Leah,
was a real blessing as well! She was there for the
entire process, cheering us on. She guided Mark
so he could help me as best as he could. She
really helped me remember my breathing. Her
presence was very much appreciated, and yet
she made it a personal time for us as well. We
can't thank her enough! To this day I swear she
is the ONLY reason I survived without an
epidural. My #1 advice to anyone who is
expecting...GET A DOULA! They are
wonderful!
After we had a moment to bond with Will he was taken to a little heated area next to the bed to be
cleaned up, measured, weighed and so on. We were astonished to hear he weighed in at 9 lb 2 oz and 21
inches. He was no teeny tiny baby! It was no wonder that my last months of pregnancy were filled with
discomfort and I weighed the equivalent of a small bus.
After Will was all cleaned up it was time to meet
those that had been waiting months and months to
see him. His Dad was so proud to hold him and
show him off! I always knew Mark would be a
GREAT Dad but I was still amazed and touched by
how quickly and deeply Mark bonded with his son.
It sure makes a person's heart sing to see their
significant other beaming with pride with a new life
in their arms. Meanwhile I was patting myself on the
back for picking "one of the good ones" to spend
my life with :)
Will was lovingly welcomed by his grandparents
"Gramma Llama and Oompa Loompa". My Mom and
Dad were ELATED to become grandparents. Will was
also welcomed by his Uncle Morgan (my lil bro), shown
on the right. Will's Uncle Devin (Mark's bro) was one of
the first to arrive at the hospital, but he was too scared to
hold brand-new baby Will. LOL We were sure pleased
to have Will's new Uncles stop in to meet him! Other
visitors to the hospital included Will's Great-Grandpa Bill
Murray and Great-Grandma Connie.
Welcome Baby William
We were released from the hospital on Thursday. It was
nice to be home! Will spent a lot of time sleeping. We
spent a lot of time wrestling over who got to hold him
next. Will's Saskatchewan grand-parents made the long
trek to meet Will, their first grandson. Will was held,
cuddled and kissed A LOT, especially by his Gramma
Linda who had to fit in as much spoiling as possible into
their short visit. Uncle Logan was also able to come and
meet his new nephew. We celebrated Thanksgiving
together and the entire family was able to welcome the
new addition. Below Great-Grandma Helen snuggles Will
at the Thanksgiving celebration.
