Let's Try That "Food Thing" Again!
Crawling and Getting Busy!

William 6 Months to 9 Months
It sure seems like things just keep getting better and
better! Everyday is a new adventure with Mr. Will. He
sure learns very quickly. One day he figured out how to
roll over. Within no time he was rolling across the
room! He is our little tumbleweed! It is really amazing
how quickly Will is growing up. Our little fella seems
like less of a baby and more of a little boy each and
every day. He is starting to sit up on his own and is
getting very skilled at holding his toys and playing. His
personality sure seems to be blooming as well. He's a
real smiley, outgoing little flirt who loves to ham it up
whenever possible.
William's First Bites
One of the joys of turning 6 months old is REAL FOOD! We
were really looking forward to introducing solids to Will. In fact,
we were so excited we had a "dinner party" of sorts, inviting his
grandparents Gramma Llama and Oompa Loompa over to enjoy
the big moment when solids would be embraced and enjoyed
wholeheartedly by wee Will. Well, it really ended up being a
"non-event". Will was thoroughly unimpressed with the whole
ordeal. This came as a real surprise to us as he is such a big boy
with such a healthy appetite. We had expected him to take to
solids and never look back. Boy, were we wrong!
Will prefers to hold the spoon himself, which results in food being
smeared all over Will's forehead, highchair and unsuspecting loved
ones. He really dislikes the taste of his grub. He sits tight lipped
and solemn, refusing to laugh, cry, smile, talk or yell just in case
someone might sneak some food in his open mouth. If a bit seeps
in past his sealed lips he rears his head back with a look of such
earnest disgust you can't help but feel bad for the little gaffer. At
least good old Oompa Loompa can still get him to grin! And the
MESS! Oh, what a mess! It is really a test of patience and stamina.
My own Mom said "I'd rather go
through potty training than feeding
little ones solids!" I thought "Ha ha,
how silly of you!! Solids! What fun!"
Boy, was I mistaken! You throw
your back into preparing a delicious
and healthy meal, only to have it
strewn from one end of the house to
the other, increasing your
housecleaning and laundry workload
exponentially. I am really hoping that
some of those carrots were
absorbed via osmosis!

Surefire Ways to Encourage Will to Eat:
1. Let him run the spoon himself and hold
the bowl with his feet (he's a baby monkey?)
2. Offer something horribly inappropriate
for babies ie. deep fried chocolate covered
doughnuts with ranch dressing on the side.
3. Be about to sink your own teeth into a
delectable morsel of steak. Undoubtedly
Will will start shrieking and reaching his
pudgy lil hand toward it in a pleading
fashion. The presence of steak knives or
other dangerous eating utensils seems to
also produce the screaming "I WANT IT"
effect.
4. Give up on feeding solids all together.
Resolve to wean him off breastfeeding by
the time he's 30 or so.
"Please Mom?"
"Now how do I get out of here?"
Walking Around the Farm
We make an effort to
go for a walk
everyday now that the
weather is a bit milder.
It is lots of fun walking
around the farm and
showing Will the
different animals. He
really enjoys the cows
when they "Mooooo".
We always take the
dogs with us. They get
so excited when they
see the stroller come
out! Sometimes
Daddy comes too.
William's First Easter
William's First Trip to the Zoo
William's Eye Surgery
William's First Rugby Game
Will's first Easter was a grand
affair! We had a really nice
family dinner complete with our
family's version of "The Amazing
Race" (which Mark and I won,
by the way). Will enjoyed
visiting with all of his relatives,
including Uncle/Godfather
Morgan (left). Will also enjoyed
being showered with gifts (aka
spoiled rotten!). He is shown
sitting in his very own Teskey's
kids' roping saddle. This was a
gift from his Oompa Loompa.
What a lucky little boy!!
Life just wouldn't be complete without rugby! Will
attended his Titans first rugby game in Calgary. I think
we may have a little rugby player on our hands!
Will says "WOW! Did you see that big tiger?!"
We decided to take Will to the zoo the day before his eye surgery. It was a great
day with perfect weather. Uncle/Godfather Morgan came along as well. Will did so
well on his first visit to the zoo!! He was happy and content the whole day. He even
enjoyed some of the larger animals, especially the tigers and cougar.
We went to the Children's
Hospital (after a very sleepless
night for Mom and Dad!) at 7
am. Will was checked in and
changed into his little hospital
clothes. Awwww, he looked
so cute. He was smiling,
laughing and flirting with all of
the nurses. The fasting was a
lot less of an ordeal than I had
feared. At 8 am they took him
into surgery and told us he'd be
done in 40 minutes. We went
for a quick breakfast and came
back to wait. In these pictures
you can see how crooked his
eye is.
At 11:00 they finally brought him out to us. He was still very sleepy and the nurse said I could hold him. As soon as
he was in my arms his heart rate and breathing improved dramatically. He nursed and that made a huge difference,
raising his heart rate from 130 bpm to 160 bpm. We stayed at the hospital til 2:00 pm to be sure he'd be ok. The
surgeon and anaesthesiologist came to check on him again to be sure his breathing was ok from the morphine
reaction and also from having the tube down his throat twice. They said we were ok to go home. Will slept the
whole way home and has been doing amazing well.
An hour and a half later we were still waiting. No sign of Will. Finally a nurse came out to tell us that when he was
coming out of surgery they gave him a shot of morphine for the pain and he stopped breathing. They had to
intubate him to get him going again. The nurse said this without any warning or anything. I have never been hit with
a ton a bricks so hard in my life!!!! It felt like someone punched me in the guts. We couldn't see him yet because
he wasn't having enough respirations per minutes so they were keeping him for another 1/2 hour in the recovery
room.

Another 1/2 hour goes by and his vitals still
aren't where they should be. The nurses said I
could go back and see him to calm my
nerves. I'll never forget the sight of him
sleeping there with tubes and machines
hooked up to him. Awwww, poor little
Peanut.
So all I can say is PHEW,
THANK GOD, THANK GOD,
THANK GOD!!!!! I am so
relieved to be home and that
Will is ok. This day has been
one of the most trying in my life.
I was so stressed out about it
(ie. him being in pain, the surgery
not working or being messed
up)...I honestly didn't think we'd
be dealing with complications as
severe as we did. I can't thank
you all enough for your kind
wishes, thoughts and prayers
today. It means the world to
Mark, Will and I.
May Long Weekend - First Parade
May long weekend brings the annual Bighorn
Stampede and parade to our little town. Will
watched his first parade with his Daddy, great
Grandparents and his Oompa Loompa, shown
here in matching cowboy hats. Awwwww.
FINALLY! At 8 months Will decided that perhaps food wasn't ALL that bad. At the advice of our Doctor we
gave solids a rest for a few months and tried again when he was ready. The Doctor took one look at that big boy
and said "He's obviously thriving!". However, exclusively breastfeeding a 24 pounder was wearing ME out. We
didn't expect this big boy to take 2 extra months to start solids!! BUT, he finally starting eating and that is all that
matters! The funny thing is that he couldn't be bothered with baby food. I suspect the texture and bland taste have
something to do with it. He started out eating "real" foods - whatever we were having for supper in little finger food
sized chunks. He's such a funny kid who will chow down on whatever we are eating, including meat which most
little guys dislike. What a funny guy!
One word...
BUSY!
Taylor Family Reunion - Eastend, SK
Mark, Will and I went on another long roadtrip to Eastend, SK for the
Taylor family reunion. It was a great time! On the left is a picture of the
oldest and youngest Taylor: Great Uncle Jack and wee Will. We also
made time to visit the other side of the family as well. Here is Will with
his Daddy and Great Grandpa Bill and Great Grandma Joyce.
Those Dogs!
It occurred to me today that those dogs are sneaking into
every picture I take of Will! And if I am not mistaken, they are
posing too! Take a look at Vito and Will (top right). Are they
not making the same facial expression? It is pretty cute to see
Rev (above) bring his ball and drop it for Will to throw. He
hasn't realized that Will isn't all that skilled at playing fetch yet.
Baby to Little Boy in the Blink of an Eye!
This is the part of the website where I start to cry. *sniff
sniff* I cannot believe that 9 months have flown by so
quickly. The 9 months of pregnancy are an eternity, but
these first 9 months have been a few short seconds. My
advice to new parents: ENJOY and savour every single
second. It is but a brief moment in time! (OK, going for a
Kleenex now.)
William Mark, look at you
grow!
