The Maremma's Story:
In January 2007 we brought home a herd of meat goats. We needed a livestock guardian animal to
protect them from predators and I began researching my options. Every goat producer I had spoken to
assured me that I need a good
livestock guardian dog. I tracked down a breeder who came highly
recommended and brought home a sweet little female pup. We named her "Luna" after wee William's
favourite book, "Goodnight Moon". It was amazing to watch such a young dog already follow her
instincts and stay with the herd.

When kidding started it became apparent that Luna needed some canine companionship to use up her
puppy energy on, rather than playing with the goat kids. We ended up bringing home her littermate,
Clyde. The two are best buddies and do a fabulous job protecting their herd. Clyde stays in close
proximity with the herd at all times while Luna patrols the perimeter, protecting the herd from any sneak
attacks. It is amazing to watch them as a team as one will stay with the goats while the other goes out to
meet the threat. Their instincts are amazing!! We've been very happy with their performance thus far.
