Dogs have been a huge part of life on the ranch as long as I can remember. We
started out with a long string of miscellaneous mutts who lived long, full lives. When
I ended up moving away to Saskatoon to attend university I became a little "dog
crazy" you might say. Living in the city without my goats, pigs, cows and horses
meant finding an alternative venue to enjoy my love of animals. I turned to dogs and
learned a lot about behaviour, nutrition, training and behaviour. We've owned some
pretty unique characters from tragically psychotic rescue dogs to a show boxer to a
high drive purebred Parson Russell terrier. Each dog has brought their own unique
personality to the table and the result has been a very interesting experience! While I
lived in Saskatoon I was big into training and competing with my dogs in obedience,
agility, tracking and musical freestyle. While I no longer have the time or venue to
pursue these interests on the ranch, my dogs still hold a special place in my heart.
The now fulfill the job of "friend" and "spoiled rotten pet" but no longer compete.
We've also had the pleasure of adding two purebred Maremmas to our ranch to
guard over our goats. In the future I hope to acquire an Australian Shepherd and
pursue herding, both on the farm and in competition. Please take a moment to
acquaint yourself with my dogs. I hope the links below will also help you on your
quest to learn more about caring for your canine counterpart.
