We couldn't be happier with the maternal
traits of our Savanna x Boer meat does.
They are wonderful, doting mothers,
producing ample milk for their young.
This cross tends to be a bit smaller than
your typical Boer meaning lower feed
costs than larger framed females. Their
kids are smaller, but are born easily.
Crossbred kids have the benefit of hybrid
vigour meaning they out perform the
average of their parents' production.
Ideally we are looking for kids who are
born small but frisky, who are up and
sucking within minutes and grow and
finish quickly. We select our replacement
does based on their maternal
characteristics. We love a doe who
weans her weight in kids. Selecting for
correct conformation ensures the
longevity and productive life of the doe
with strong legs, good feet, and a sound
udder.
